I do the work of a stage manager simply because I love it. My first time stage-managing; I assumed I got lucky with a great cast and crew. I realize that I am not lucky; I am a leader. When I work with a cast and crew, we connect on a level deeper than just work. We become aware of each other’s emotional state and that helps us connect on a professional level because we have an understanding of each other. The environment when I stage-manage is relaxed and comfortable for everyone involved. There is a lot of responsibility that falls on the shoulders of a stage manager, but that’s what I love most about the job. There is a great deal of trust and respect that comes with this job as long as you can prove that you know what you’re doing.

My goal is to be a stage manager who people aren’t afraid to come to for help in any aspect of the production or even if they just need someone to talk to. I want the people that I work with to know that I care about what’s going on with them not just about our job. I want to be a seen as a friend and also the person in charge. That way, people can respect me for not only being good at what I do, but because they don’t view me as a power of them.
